Quick diagnosis
Start on calendar.google.com in a browser on a computer. Find a time is an event tool, not a Settings toggle. Add guests first, then compare schedules. If a guest looks free, they may not have shared that calendar, you may have more than 50 guests, or their busy time lives on another Google account you cannot see.
| What you see | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|
| Guest schedule is blank | Help says guests must have shared their calendars with you. An unshared calendar, or one on a different Google account, does not appear. | Ask them to share that calendar, or send a request to share from Find a time Help. After they share, you get an email confirmation. Sharing levels are in the access permissions guide. |
|---|
| More than 50 guests | Help says you can compare availability for up to 50 guests. If you add more than 50, only 50 schedules are shown. | Compare the required 50, or split the meeting. Filter and view can hide optional guests so you look at Required guests first. |
|---|
| No Find a time button | Find a time is on the event after you add guests, on a computer. Help documents Create Event, add guests, then Find a time. | Open calendar.google.com on a computer. Click Create Event, add at least one guest, then click Find a time. In the Calendar app, Help documents View schedules after you add people. |
|---|
| Calendars still overlap in Day view | View calendars side by side in Day View is off, you are not in Day view, or you have not subscribed to that calendar. | Subscribe to the calendar first. On a computer, open Settings, then View options, and check View calendars side by side in Day View. Stay in Day view. |
|---|
| Room schedule missing | The room is selected but Filter and view is hiding rooms, or the account cannot book organization rooms. | Click Filter and view, then Show rooms. Add rooms needs a work or school account. A personal Gmail account cannot add organization rooms. |
|---|
| Looks free, but you are busy on another account | Find a time only sees calendars the guests shared, plus the calendar you are creating the event on. Busy time on another of your Google accounts stays invisible. | Use Resync to write private Busy holds onto the calendar people already check. Sharing one calendar does not copy busy time from a second account. |

How to Find a time
Google Calendar Help documents find a time when someone is available on a computer. Important: you can compare availability for up to 50 guests. If you add more than 50 guests to your event, only 50 schedules are shown. These guests must have shared their calendars with you.
On a computer:
- On your computer, open Google Calendar.
- At the top left, click Create Event.
- Add guests to your event.
- Click Find a time.
- Find an available time on your calendar and your guests' calendars.
Help also documents Search for people on the left if you only need to open someone's calendar. Enter the name of the person. That is a view of a shared calendar, not the Find a time comparison grid.
Optional on an eligible Workspace plan: Suggested times can propose slots. Help says you cannot get suggested times in the Calendar app, or when the event is longer than 8 hours, has too many attendees, or the date range is in the past. Help also notes Gemini in Google Calendar can help find a time on an eligible Workspace plan.
In the Google Calendar app on Android or iPhone and iPad, create an event, add people, then tap View schedules. Help says you cannot add other people's calendars from the app. Add them on a computer first.

Filter and view
After you open Find a time, Help says you can manage the view with Filter and view:
- Show or hide rooms: click Show rooms.
- Filter guests: select No guests, Required guests, or All guests.
Use Required guests when a large invite list makes the grid hard to read. Help still caps the comparison at 50 schedules if you added more than 50 guests. Filter and view does not raise that limit.

Day view side by side
Find a time is a one-event comparison. If you subscribe to someone's calendar, Help also lets you check their schedule next to yours in the main calendar grid. That is a persistent setting. Each calendar uses its own dedicated column rather than overlapping.
On a computer:
- On your computer, open Google Calendar.
- At the top right, click Settings menu, Settings.
- On the left, click View options.
- Check the box for View calendars side by side in Day View.
- In your main calendar, make sure you are in Day view.
You still need access to that calendar. Side-by-side Day view does not reveal an unshared calendar, and it does not copy busy time from a second Google account onto this one.

When calendars aren't shared
Help says guests must have shared their calendars with you before Find a time can compare them. Share your calendar is the owner's step. What you see depends on the permission they granted:
- If the person's calendar is shared publicly or within your organization, you can find their calendar. Search for people on the left also works in that case.
- If the person does not share their calendar with you, you can send them a request to share it. After they share their calendar, you get an email confirmation.
- When people share their calendar, they choose the information others can find about their events and the permissions others have. See only free/busy (hide details) shows when they are busy and hides titles. See event details shows names.
- Event visibility (Default, Public, Private) is a per-event control. A Private event can still occupy the time as Busy while hiding the title.
Sharing one calendar does not expose events on a different Google account. If a colleague looks free because their personal calendar is not shared with work, that is expected. Sharing levels, greyed-out options, and how to change or remove access are in the Google Calendar access permissions: sharing levels, greyed out, and how to change or remove access guide.

Optional rooms
Rooms are optional. Find a time still works without one. To check if a room is available, Help says:
- Click Add rooms or Add room booking.
- Choose a room.
- If a room is selected but you do not find its schedule, click Filter and view, then Show rooms.
Rooms and other resources need a work or school account. A personal @gmail.com account cannot add organization rooms. Help instead points that account to creating a regular calendar for a shared space. Resync does not book rooms.

When Resync helps (and when it does not)
Use the steps above when the problem is Find a time, Filter and view, the 50-guest limit, Day view side by side, a calendar that is not shared, or rooms. Resync does not create Find a time, share calendars, or add rooms. It writes private Busy holds between your own Google calendars so Find a time on the calendar people already check sees busy time from your other Google account. It does not sync Outlook, Apple Calendar, or iCloud.
Use Resync when work and personal events live on different Google accounts, so Find a time on one account misses busy time on the other. Resync copies private Busy holds between your own Google calendars. People who already check one calendar then see the holds as busy, without source titles. $1.50/month or $9/year after a 30-day free trial, no credit card required.
- Holds are titled Busy. Description, location, attendees, and conference data are left empty, so source meeting details stay on the source calendar.
- When you mark calendars as both source and mirror, a booking on either calendar becomes a Busy hold on the others. That is two-way blocking between those Google calendars.
- If a source event moves, Resync updates the hold. If the event is cancelled, marked free, declined, or is a working-location event, Resync does not keep a hold.
- Resync looks 90 days ahead when it reads source events. It watches source calendars with Google push notifications and updates holds when those events change. A polling fallback also runs about every 5 minutes. Read-only calendars cannot be mirrors. Resync currently syncs Google calendars only.
- If you delete or edit a hold, Resync records that and does not recreate it for the same source event on that mirror.
Set up Resync
- Sign in with GoogleOpen Resync and sign in with the Google account you want as your primary account. You land on setup.
- Connect another Google accountChoose Connect another Google account and finish Google's permission screen. Resync needs at least two Google accounts before you can start.
- Start syncingWhen a second account is connected, setup shows bidirectional mirroring as the intended default: real events on either side become private busy blocks on the other. Choose Start syncing to open the dashboard.
- Mark sources and mirrorsIn Sync configuration, turn on Source to read busy time from a calendar and Mirror to receive Busy holds. A calendar can be both. Read-only calendars cannot be mirrors because Resync needs write access to create holds. Find a time that checks the mirror calendar then sees those holds as busy time.
