Google Calendar shared calendar not showing? Fixes

Short answer: a shared Google calendar that does not show up is usually one of these. The share invite was never accepted, so the calendar is not under Other calendars. It was added but is hidden or unchecked on the web, or not turned on in the phone app. On iPhone or iPad, a shared calendar often needs Google's Calendar sync page and a check in Apple Calendar's Calendars list. On Android, it needs to be selected and synced in the Google Calendar app. See only free/busy (hide details) shows events as Busy without names. A Workspace admin can restrict external sharing. Outlook only sees a Google calendar through a subscribed ICS feed. Or the owner removed the share or deleted the calendar.

Sharing a calendar is Google's free built-in option and is often enough. Resync is relevant when your other Google calendars or accounts should actually block each other with Busy holds, not just view a shared calendar. Resync works only with Google Calendar accounts. It does not fix sharing permissions, phone sync settings, or sync Outlook, Apple Calendar, or iCloud.

Quick diagnosis

Start on calendar.google.com in a browser. If the shared calendar is missing there, fix the invite, permission, or admin setting before you change a phone. If it is on the web and only gone from one app, stay on that device.

Fix
In Settings → Accounts and backup → Manage accounts, turn Auto sync on and enable Calendar for the Google account. In Samsung Calendar, open Menu → Manage calendars and show the Google calendar.

Events show as Busy only

Likely cause
The owner granted See only free/busy (hide details). That is a view of busy time, not missing events.
Fix
Ask the owner for See event details if company policy allows it. To hold time on another Google calendar you book from, use the busy-time guide or Resync. Sharing alone does not write events onto that other calendar.

Missing in Outlook

Likely cause
Outlook does not accept a Google share overlay. It needs a Google iCal subscription, which is read-only and delayed.
Fix
Copy Google's secret iCal address and subscribe from web in Outlook. Outlook on the web can take more than 24 hours. Resync does not connect Outlook. See the Outlook guide.

Was visible, now gone

Likely cause
The owner stopped sharing, deleted the calendar, or an admin lowered external sharing.
Fix
Confirm the calendar is still under Other calendars on the web. Ask the owner to share it again. If it vanished for everyone outside the company, it is an admin setting.

Invite email never arrived

Likely cause
The owner used the wrong address, the email is in spam, or the owner has not sent the share yet.
Fix
Search spam for the share email. Google Calendar Help says the owner can remove you and add you again. You can also ask them to share, then add the calendar from Other calendars → Subscribe to calendar.

Web and Other calendars

Google Calendar Help says when you share a calendar, the other person gets an email. They must click the link in that email to add it. Until they do, the calendar is not in their account. After they add it, it appears on the left under Other calendars.

  1. Sign in to the Google account that should see the share, then open calendar.google.com.
  2. Look under Other calendars. If you cannot find the list, expand it. An unchecked box hides the overlay and looks like a missing calendar.
  3. Search mail for the share invite, including spam. Google Calendar Help says if they cannot find the email, confirm the address, check spam, or ask the owner to remove them and add them again.
  4. You can also subscribe to the calendar on a computer: next to Other calendars, choose Add other calendars, then Subscribe to calendar, and enter the owner's email. If it is already shared, Help says it then shows under Other calendars.

A calendar added From URL is not a share. It is a read-only ICS feed that Google refreshes on its own schedule. Those steps are in the subscribed calendar guide.

iPhone and iPad

Decide which app you mean. The Google Calendar app and the Calendar app that comes with the iPhone are not the same. A shared calendar can be right in one and missing in the other.

For the Google Calendar app, Google Calendar Help says: check your internet connection, update the app, make sure the calendar is visible, and confirm events are on a Google account. Open the app, tap Menu, and select the shared calendar. Shared calendars are easy to leave unchecked.

For Apple Calendar, Google Calendar Help documents adding Google in Settings, then Calendar, then Accounts, then Add account, then Google. Apple Support for current iOS documents Settings → Apps → Calendar → Calendar Accounts. Both add the Google account to Apple Calendar. Turn Calendars on for that account.

  • In Apple Calendar, tap Calendars and select the shared Google calendar. An unchecked calendar looks like it never arrived.
  • Google Calendar Help says calendars under My calendars, plus Birthdays, sync automatically. Other calendars, including many shared calendars, use the Calendar sync page: check the names, click Save, then refresh Apple Calendar. Google Calendar Help still documents that page.
  • Google Calendar Help does not document that a See only free/busy share will sync to Apple Calendar. If the owner only granted free/busy, use the Google Calendar app for that overlay, or ask for See event details if company policy allows it.

Device sync problems that are not specific to a share are in the not-syncing guide. Seeing Google calendars in Apple Calendar, or iCloud calendars in Google Calendar, is in the Sync Apple (iCloud) Calendar with Google Calendar guide. Resync does not sync Apple Calendar or iCloud and does not change those Settings toggles.

Android and Samsung Calendar

If the shared calendar is on calendar.google.com and missing in the Google Calendar app, stay on the phone.

  1. Check Wi-Fi or mobile data. The app needs a network.
  2. Update the Google Calendar app from the Play Store.
  3. Open the app, tap Menu, and select the shared calendar. A hidden checkbox looks like a missing share.
  4. In the device Settings app, open Passwords, passkeys & accounts (or About phone → Google Account), select the Google account, tap Account sync, and turn Calendar on.
  5. In the Calendar app, tap Menu → Settings, open the calendar (Show more if needed), and turn Sync on if Help shows the control. Google Calendar Help says that Sync setting is for calendars you created, not the primary calendar, which is usually called Events. It might take some time for events to show after you turn sync on.
  6. Tap Menu → Refresh to sync now.

Samsung Calendar is not the Google Calendar app. Samsung Support says the Calendar app can connect to online accounts such as Google. If the shared calendar exists in the Google Calendar app but not in Samsung Calendar, it is usually hidden there.

  1. Open Settings → Accounts and backup → Manage accounts. Turn Auto sync data on.
  2. Open the Google account, tap Sync account, and turn Calendar on. Samsung Support also documents More options → Sync now.
  3. Open Samsung Calendar, tap Menu, then Manage calendars, and show the Google calendar. Samsung Support also documents Menu → Sync now.

Samsung Support notes that menu names can vary by model and software. Resync does not change Android or Samsung Calendar settings.

Outlook

Outlook does not add a shared Google calendar from the Google share email. Microsoft documents seeing your Google Calendar in Outlook by copying Google's secret address in iCal format and pasting it into Subscribe from web. That feed is read-only.

Outlook on the web can take more than 24 hours to refresh a subscribed calendar. A classic Outlook .ics import is a snapshot and does not keep updating. The full ICS steps, including the other direction, are in the Outlook guide. A stale Google From URL subscription is in the subscribed calendar guide. Resync does not connect Outlook or Microsoft 365.

Workspace admin limits

If the calendar is for work or school, Google Calendar Help says your administrator decides whether you can share it. Google Workspace Admin Help lets admins control how much calendar information people can share outside the organization. Users cannot exceed that limit.

  • If the admin allows only free/busy information, people outside the organization see events as Busy and cannot find names or other details.
  • If the admin turns external sharing down, people outside the organization can lose access to calendars they could previously see. Admin Help says changes can take up to 24 hours.
  • Super administrators and admins with calendar-management permission can still find event details, however calendars are shared.

Adding a work calendar to personal Gmail, when the admin allows it, is in the work calendar guide. Resync does not change Workspace sharing settings. If you can sign in to both Google accounts, Resync can write Busy holds without those accounts sharing calendars with each other.

Shared but events not showing

The calendar can be in the list while events still look missing. Treat that as a different problem from a calendar that was never added.

  • See only free/busy (hide details) lets people find out when you are busy. They cannot find names or other event details. That is working as designed. The show busy instead of details guide and the share busy time guide cover that permission.
  • On the web, an unchecked calendar under Other calendars hides every event on that overlay.
  • On a phone, the calendar must also be selected in that app. On Android, Menu → Settings → Sync on can still be off for a secondary calendar.
  • If some events appear and others do not, the owner may have deleted them, marked them Free, or set them Private. People with only free/busy access do not see those details.
  • Google Calendar Help does not document that a See only free/busy share will sync to Apple Calendar. Use the Google Calendar app for that overlay if Apple Calendar stays empty.

Sharing is a view of the owner's calendar. It does not write events onto yours. If you need the other Google calendar that people book to treat this busy time as busy, use Resync or create holds by hand. Sharing alone is often enough when a live overlay is all you need.

Google Calendar Help steps checked Nov 2, 2026. Cited from Calendar sharing permissions.

When Resync helps (and when it does not)

Sharing a calendar is Google's free built-in option and is often enough. Use the steps above when the problem is an invite, a hidden checkbox, phone sync, Outlook ICS, or an admin limit. Resync does not fix sharing permissions, phone sync settings, or sync Outlook, Apple Calendar, or iCloud.

Use Resync when you want your other Google calendars or accounts to actually block each other: Busy holds copied between Google accounts, rather than just viewing a shared calendar. Resync works only with Google Calendar accounts. It reads when you are busy on Google calendars you mark as sources and writes hold events onto Google calendars you mark as mirrors. $1.50/month or $9/year after a 30-day free trial, no credit card required.

  • Holds are titled Busy. Description, location, attendees, and conference data are left empty, so source meeting details stay on the source calendar.
  • When you mark calendars as both source and mirror, a booking on either calendar becomes a Busy hold on the others. That is two-way blocking between those Google calendars.
  • If a source event moves, Resync updates the hold. If the event is cancelled, marked free, declined, or is a working-location event, Resync does not keep a hold.
  • Resync looks 90 days ahead when it reads source events. Holds it writes are marked so they are not copied again.
  • Resync watches source calendars with Google push notifications and updates holds when those events change. A polling fallback also runs about every 5 minutes.
  • If you delete or edit a hold, Resync records that and does not recreate it for the same source event on that mirror.
  • Read-only calendars cannot be mirrors. Resync currently syncs Google calendars only.

Set up Resync

  1. Sign in with GoogleOpen Resync and sign in with the Google account you want as your primary account. You land on setup.
  2. Connect another Google accountChoose Connect another Google account and finish Google's permission screen. Resync needs at least two Google accounts before you can start.
  3. Start syncingWhen a second account is connected, setup shows bidirectional mirroring as the intended default: real events on either side become private busy blocks on the other. Choose Start syncing to open the dashboard.
  4. Mark sources and mirrorsIn Sync configuration, turn on Source to read busy time from a calendar and Mirror to receive Busy holds. A calendar can be both. Read-only calendars cannot be mirrors because Resync needs write access to create holds.

FAQ

Why is a shared Google Calendar not showing up?

Usually the share invite was never accepted, so the calendar is not under Other calendars on calendar.google.com. Or it was added and then hidden or unchecked. On a phone, the calendar also has to be turned on in that app. If the owner granted See only free/busy (hide details), the calendar can appear while events only show as Busy. A work or school admin can block external sharing. If the share was removed or the owner deleted the calendar, it disappears everywhere.

Why is a shared Google Calendar not showing on iPhone, iPad, or iOS?

Confirm it first on calendar.google.com. If it is there and missing on the phone, the Google Calendar app and Apple Calendar are different apps. In the Google Calendar app, tap Menu and select the shared calendar. For Apple Calendar, add Google in Settings. Current iOS documents Settings → Apps → Calendar → Calendar Accounts. Then tap Calendars in the Calendar app and check the shared calendar. Google Calendar Help says calendars under My calendars, plus Birthdays, sync automatically. Other calendars, including many shared calendars, use Google's Calendar sync page: check the names, save, then refresh Apple Calendar.

Why is a shared Google Calendar not showing or not syncing on Android?

In the Google Calendar app, tap Menu and select the shared calendar. Then open Menu → Settings, find the calendar (Show more if needed), and turn Sync on if Help shows that control. Google Calendar Help says that Sync setting is for calendars you created, not the primary Events calendar, and that events can take some time to appear. Also turn Calendar on under the Google account's Account sync. Samsung Calendar is a different app: Samsung Support documents Auto sync, the Google account Calendar toggle, and Manage calendars.

Why is a shared Google Calendar not showing in Outlook?

Outlook does not receive a live Google share the way Google Calendar does. Microsoft documents seeing a Google calendar in Outlook by pasting Google's secret iCal address into Subscribe from web. That feed is read-only. Outlook on the web can take more than 24 hours to refresh a subscribed calendar. A classic Outlook .ics import is a snapshot and does not keep updating. Resync does not connect Outlook. The Outlook guide and the subscribed-calendar guide cover those ICS paths.

Why does a shared calendar show events as Busy, or why are events not showing?

See only free/busy (hide details) lets people find out when you are busy. They cannot find names or other event details. That looks like missing events if you expected titles. If the calendar is missing entirely, accept the invite and turn the calendar on. If the calendar is on and some events are gone, the owner may have deleted them, marked them Free, or set them Private. Google Calendar Help does not document that a See only free/busy share will sync to Apple Calendar.

Does Resync fix a shared Google Calendar that is not showing?

No. Sharing a calendar is Google's free built-in option and is often enough. Resync does not accept share invites, change permissions, turn on phone sync, or connect Outlook, Apple Calendar, or iCloud. It works only with Google Calendar accounts. Use it when your other Google calendars should block each other with private Busy holds, not just view a shared calendar. $1.50/month or $9/year after a 30-day free trial, no credit card required.

Connect the Google calendars you want to keep aligned, then mark sources and mirrors on the dashboard.

Resync will ask Google for permission to:see your list of calendars; see events on the calendars you choose as Sources, to know when you're busy; and create, update and delete events titled "Busy" on calendars you choose as Mirrors. We never store event titles, attendees or locations. Privacy policy
