How to show or hide declined events
Google Calendar Help names Show declined events on Android and iPhone: it shows the events you said No to. On a computer, Help documents View options as the settings that change how the calendar looks. The published computer settings table lists View options without naming that checkbox. The product control is Show declined events.
Computer
- On your computer, open Google Calendar.
- At the top right, click Settings.
- On the left, click View options.
- Turn Show declined events on or off. Changes save automatically.
Help does not document a keyboard shortcut for this setting. Use Settings when you want to see declined meetings, and turn it off when you do not want declined events on the grid.
Android
- On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Calendar app.
- Tap Menu, then Settings, then General.
- Turn Show declined events on or off. Help says that setting shows the events you said No to.
iPhone and iPad
- On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Calendar app.
- Tap Menu, then Settings, then General.
- Turn Show declined events on or off. Help says that setting shows the events you said No to.
This is a view setting on your calendar. It does not change the No the organizer already received. If the invite never appeared, that is Add invitations to my calendar, not this checkbox. That path is in the invite not showing guide.

Remove declined events from your view
Hide, decline, and delete are different. Use the one that matches what you want gone.
- Hide declined events: turn Show declined events off. The No stays on the calendar. You can turn the setting back on to find the event or change your RSVP.
- Change the RSVP: turn Show declined events on, open the event, and choose Yes or Maybe. You can also respond in Gmail at the top of the invitation email.
- Remove an invitation: Delete an event Help says after you remove an event you were invited to, Calendar tells the organizer you decline. Use Remove or Remove from this calendar.
- Deleted events stay in that calendar's Trash for 30 days on a computer. Open Settings menu, then Trash, to restore or delete forever.
Deleting an event you created takes it off invited calendars too. That is not a guest No. If events are missing for another reason, use the events not showing guide.

Why Calendar automatically declines events
Google Calendar can send a No for you. The usual causes are Out of office and Focus time. Working hours are not an auto-decline.
- Out of office Help says when you indicate that you are out of office, your calendar automatically declines all meetings during that time. The computer page also says your Google Calendar declines all meetings when you are not available. You can change decline settings and edit the decline message. Setup and fixes are in the out of office guide.
- Focus time can automatically decline meetings when Automatically decline meetings is on. Eligible work or school accounts only. By default it declines new and existing meetings. You can change that to only new meeting invitations. Setup and fixes are in the focus time guide.
- Working hours warn invitees outside those hours. Help does not document working hours as a setting that automatically declines meetings. They also do not create Busy events. That difference is in the working hours guide.
Resync does not create Out of office or Focus time events, and it does not send a No for you.

Declined vs deleted vs Maybe
RSVP and delete are different controls. Yes, Maybe, and No tell the organizer whether you plan to attend. Remove takes the event off your calendar. Busy or Free decides whether the time is occupied.
| Action | For you | For the organizer | Free/busy |
|---|
| Declined (No) | You told the organizer you are not going. The invitation can stay on your calendar. Whether it appears on the grid depends on Show declined events. | They get a notification. The event shows your RSVP as No. Hiding declined events on your calendar does not change that. | Appointment-schedule Help hides slots for Yes, Maybe, and Busy events. It does not list a No reply as a block. |
|---|
| Deleted or removed | The event is off your calendar. Delete an event Help says if you remove an invitation, Calendar tells the organizer you decline. Trash holds deleted events for 30 days on a computer. | If you created the event, deleting it takes it off invited calendars too. If you were a guest and removed it, Calendar reports a decline. | A removed invitation is no longer an event on your calendar. It does not occupy the time there. |
|---|
| Maybe | You told the organizer you might go. Help says invitations show on your primary calendar. Maybe is an RSVP, not Free. | They get a notification. The event shows your RSVP as Maybe. A note next to Maybe is visible to all invitees. | Appointment-schedule Help hides that block if you RSVP Maybe, the same as Yes, on a reviewed calendar. |
|---|
| No response | The invite may already be on your primary calendar, or it may stay off the grid until you respond in email. That depends on Add invitations to my calendar. | You still appear on the guest list. Help documents RSVP status after guests respond. It does not name a labeled awaiting status. | Help does not say whether an unanswered invite occupies free/busy for people who only see busy time. |

What organizers see
Invite people to your Calendar event Help says when a guest RSVPs, the organizer receives an email notification and the event updates. Click the event to see who is attending, RSVP status, and details. You can opt out of those RSVP emails in settings.
- A No is visible to the organizer as RSVP status. Hiding declined events on your calendar does not hide that No from them.
- Guests who do not use Google Calendar still get Yes, No, or Maybe links in the email.
- A note you add next to your response is visible to all invitees.
- Help does not describe a special color or stripe for a declined guest on the organizer's grid.
On Android or iPhone, you can also respond from the Calendar app or the iPhone and iPad app. The organizer still sees the same Yes, No, or Maybe.

Declined-event troubleshooting
Use this table when a declined event is missing, still visible, or Calendar sent a No you did not click.
| What you see | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|
| Declined event disappeared | Show declined events is off, so events you said No to stay on the calendar but do not appear in the grid. | Turn Show declined events on. On a computer: Settings, then View options. In the app: Menu, Settings, General. If the invite never appeared, use the invite-not-showing guide. |
|---|
| Can't find Show declined events on computer | Official Help names that checkbox on Android and iPhone. The computer settings table lists View options without naming the checkbox. | Open Settings, then View options. The product control is Show declined events. If you still cannot find it, use the Calendar app path, which Help names. |
|---|
| Calendar is automatically declining meetings | An Out of office event declines meetings during that time. Focus time can decline meetings when Automatically decline meetings is on. | Open the Out of office or Focus time event and change decline settings, or delete that event. Working hours warn invitees. They do not auto-decline. |
|---|
| I deleted the event, organizer still sees No | Delete an event Help says after you remove an invitation, Calendar tells the organizer you decline. | That decline is expected. Ask the organizer to send a new invite if you want to RSVP Yes or Maybe. Trash can restore a deleted event for 30 days on a computer. |
|---|
| Organizer still sees me as busy | Hide declined events is a view setting on your calendar. It does not change RSVP or free/busy for the organizer. | Confirm you responded No. Busy vs Free is a separate event setting. Full diagnosis is in the busy-vs-free guide. |
|---|
| Resync did not write a Busy hold | Resync skips a source event when you declined it, so no hold is created on the mirror. | That is expected. RSVP Yes or Maybe if the time should stay blocked on the other calendar. If you delete a hold, Resync does not recreate it for the same source event on that mirror. |

How Resync treats declined invites
Use No when you want the organizer to know you are not attending. Use Show declined events when you want that No on or off your grid. Resync does not change those settings. It does not sync Outlook, Apple Calendar, or iCloud.
Use Resync when another of your Google calendars should stay aligned with busy time you still occupy. Resync skips declined invites when mirroring, so no Busy hold is created. It currently syncs Google calendars only. $1.50/month or $9/year after a 30-day free trial, no credit card required.
- Resync skips declined invites when mirroring, so no Busy hold is created. If you later decline an invite that already had a hold, Resync removes that hold.
- A Maybe invite and an unanswered invite still get a hold unless the event is Free, cancelled, or a working-location event. That RSVP difference is in the tentative guide.
- Holds are titled Busy. Description, location, attendees, and conference data are left empty, so source meeting details stay on the source calendar.
- Each hold occupies the time. Resync does not copy the source title, and it does not copy No onto the hold.
- If a source event moves, Resync updates the hold. If the event is cancelled, marked free, declined, or is a working-location event, Resync does not keep a hold.
- Resync looks 90 days ahead when it reads source events. It watches source calendars with Google push notifications and updates holds when those events change. A polling fallback also runs about every 5 minutes. Read-only calendars cannot be mirrors. Resync currently syncs Google calendars only.
- If you delete or edit a hold, Resync records that and does not recreate it for the same source event on that mirror.
- If the source event is Private, the hold is Private. Otherwise the hold uses default visibility.
Set up Resync
- Sign in with GoogleOpen Resync and sign in with the Google account you want as your primary account. You land on setup.
- Connect another Google accountChoose Connect another Google account and finish Google's permission screen. Resync needs at least two Google accounts before you can start.
- Start syncingWhen a second account is connected, setup shows bidirectional mirroring as the intended default: real events on either side become private busy blocks on the other. Choose Start syncing to open the dashboard.
- Mark sources and mirrorsIn Sync configuration, turn on Source to read busy time from a calendar and Mirror to receive Busy holds. A calendar can be both. Read-only calendars cannot be mirrors because Resync needs write access to create holds. A declined invite is skipped, so no Busy hold is created.
FAQ
How do I show declined events in Google Calendar?
On a computer, open Google Calendar, click Settings, then View options, and turn Show declined events on. Official Help documents Settings, then View options, as the place that changes how the calendar looks. It names the Show declined events setting on Android and iPhone: Menu, Settings, General. That setting shows the events you said No to. If an invite never appeared, that is a different problem than a hidden No.
How do I hide declined events or stop showing them?
Turn Show declined events off. On a computer that control is under Settings, then View options. In the Google Calendar app on Android or iPhone, it is under Menu, Settings, General. Hiding a declined event does not delete it and does not change the No the organizer already received. Turn the setting back on if you need to find the event or change your RSVP.
How do I remove declined events from Google Calendar?
To take them off your grid without deleting, turn Show declined events off. To take an invitation off your calendar, Delete an event Help says after you remove an event you were invited to, Calendar tells the organizer you decline. Use Remove or Remove from this calendar. Deleted events stay in that calendar's Trash for 30 days on a computer. Removing is not the same as hiding a No.
Why is Google Calendar automatically declining events?
Out of office automatically declines meetings during that time. Focus time can automatically decline meetings when Automatically decline meetings is on. Eligible work or school accounts only. Working hours warn invitees outside your hours. Help does not document working hours as an auto-decline. Change the decline settings on the Out of office or Focus time event if you want only new invitations declined.
What is the difference between declined, deleted, and Maybe?
Declined is RSVP No. The organizer is told you are not going. The event can stay on your calendar and stay hidden when Show declined events is off. Deleted or removed takes the event off your calendar. If you remove an invitation, Calendar tells the organizer you decline. Maybe tells the organizer you might attend. It is not Free, and it is not a third free/busy status.
Does Resync create a Busy hold for a declined invite?
No. Resync skips declined invites when mirroring, so no Busy hold is created. If you later decline an invite that already had a hold, Resync removes that hold. A Maybe or unanswered invite still gets a hold unless the event is Free, cancelled, or a working-location event. Holds are titled Busy. Description, location, attendees, and conference data stay empty. $1.50/month or $9/year after a 30-day free trial, no credit card required.
Connect the Google calendars you want to keep aligned, then mark sources and mirrors on the dashboard.
Resync will ask Google for permission to:see your list of calendars; see events on the calendars you choose as Sources, to know when you're busy; and create, update and delete events titled "Busy" on calendars you choose as Mirrors. We never store event titles, attendees or locations. Privacy policy
